About the Symposium

The International Symposium on Skin Stem Cell Dynamics will be held on May 14-15, 2023 at the Ito International Research Center at the University of Tokyo. The symposium will share the latest research findings on skin stem cells and discuss the rapidly advancing research in this field.

The symposium will focus on stem cell dynamics. Stem cells have been shown to be involved in various biological processes ranging from development, regeneration, and homeostasis to aging and disease. In these processes, stem cells exhibit remarkable plasticity and robustness in response to external and internal changes. Furthermore, it is becoming clear that the interaction between stem cells and their microenvironment is a key component of their dynamic nature. Given the potential applications of stem cells in medicine and drug discovery, many participants from ISID 2023 are expected to attend the conference. Through discussions at the conference, we hope to deepen our understanding of the nature of stem cells in skin and gain new insights into strategies for overcoming intractable skin diseases for which there are no established treatments and for complete skin regeneration.

In order to enhance discussion and networking among participants, the size of the symposium is expected to be approximately 120 people. In addition, a networking dinner "Meet the Experts" is planned for the evening of the first day. We also hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity for early career researchers from Japan, Asia, and around the world to explore cutting-edge science and interact directly with skin and stem cell researchers.

This Symposium is a part of RIKEN Symposium Series.
